PsyGeoProvflux

We wanted to share a little more about the show. Things went great, we have a lot of photos of the public interventions that took place all over town. Some more photos from the opening night at the Steel Yard can be found here: photos

Check out the Progressive Runway Show, a large scale urban fashion show, with the fashion all made from trash. Other good photos of the roaming pillow fight known as Rough Sesh V and the 24 Hour Art Riot, a group of trouble makers running amok in the city creating art and brightening the landscape of Providence.

The Potato Planting Brigade was present at the opening but quickly blended back into the urban space to plan their next group planting. Also worth a look are the pictures from the Bus Party, the Maps Project, and the Urban Agricultural Unit.

Make sure to check out the projects section, there were a lot of great ideas and interventions created throughout the Provflux. Check some more out here: Guerrilla Mosaics, Anna Shapiro.

We look forward to doing more events like this so stay tuned for the next Provflux...

Steelyard Reception

Sorry for the delay, but with the events of the past two months, PIPS has been busy with a number of projects. After the Provflux, on to the next project...

With some time for reflection and the collection of documentation, we are pleased to tell you that the Provflux was a great success. Lots of fun events that inspired a lot of people. Take a look around at the documentation.

The reception was a great success, a fine group of people gathered to enjoy our industrial heritage as we move forward and claim a new space for a changing city...

Many thanks to all the Steelyard crew, all the help was great, we look forward to future collaborations. If you have not checked out the Firehouse 13 and WVCB projects take some time at the sites to see what some great artists projects are ongoing and want your involvement. Without their support the Provflux would not have been such a success.

We hope everyone enjoyed the night, here are a few pictures to tell the story: opening night

Update/Information

pficon1

Planning for the Provflux is in full swing: Crosswalk has been sent to the printers, a documentation crew is being set up, and final details and all the rest are being taken care of by PIPS. The website is up to date with projects and events, with the schedule coming shortly. The show is going to be a lot of fun so we hope to see you all there.

Stay posted for details about meeting points, times, and other surprises...

A couple of announcements:

Thursday the 6th will be a clean up day at the Steel Yard. Any artists or volunteers that want to stop by and check out the space are welcome. We will have some food and drinks for anyone who shows up.

Saturday the 8th is a major day for the Provflux crew. Lots of heavy equipment, etc needs to be moved and there is always cleanig to do. Because the space is so raw, we need all the help we can get. We will have a barbecue going throughout the day and would love to see anyone interested come give a hand in the run up to the show.

Thats it for now, stay tuned...

Provflux Hub

PIPS has been working hard to nail down a space for the Provflux and we are glad to announce that the Woonasquatucket Valley Community Build will be sponsoring the Provflux. Although there will be events all over the city the WVCB will serve as the hub of activity. Raw and industrial, it is a perfect setting for the event.

Check out some more info:

WVCB (woonasquatucket valley community build) has been developed to insure an evolution in public and private space available for freelance and education for the production of industrial arts. An Industrial art is described as: the methodology and experimentation or manipulation of material with the use of industrial tools to create art. One of the WVCB objectives is to instruct participants in an introduction to industrial metallurgy and allow for the creative development of the individual.

WVCB, established for ages 16+ to aid in the focus of goals and the attainability of marketable job skills for industrial application. WVCB also offers freelance space for individual development and learning. Through association with experienced artists both local and foreign, participants gain insight into broad artistic fields. The non-profit makes classes affordable and facilities accessible in a wide range of the industrial arts. WVCB will accept charitable tax-deductible contributions of, equipment, materials, supplies, and volunteers. So contribute, no object too large no participation to small.

The WVCB is also linked up with some other interesting projects like ARC(Arts Resources Center), so give them a look. The show is shaping up to be a great event, lots of artist from all over are involved and we cant wait to show off the best of what Providence has to offer...

CROSSWALK: Call for Submissions

"Crosswalk", a publication discussing current issues and events in urban psychogeography, will make its debut in conjunction with the Psy-Geo Provflux. The first issue will focus on defining psychogeography in the context of its affect on the creative process. It will feature the Provflux, including maps and schedules for the events, artist's statements, and general dialogue about how and why artists choose the city as the canvas for their work.
If you are interested in the Psy-Geo Provflux and are the literary type, then submitting an article for "Crosswalk" could be just the right way to get involved. We are currently accepting all kinds of written documents and photography dealing with the issues oulined above. Please send any questions and/or documents to pipsters@verizon.net.

ALSO-- We are especially interested in articles and photographs that deal with the history of Providence's changing urban structure in general. If you've happened to have done some research in that venue, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share it with us.

Thanks!

Potential Things

The Provflux is well underway (in terms of planning, anyways) and we have a few new things to let everyone know.

thumb.jpg
Art in Ruins is a group we hope will join us for the Provflux. They are doing some interesting documentation of Providence dealing with Past, Present and Future.

DSLRTrashball.jpg
We have been watching the work of the Department of Space and Land Reclamation and have hopes they may get involved. They are a group of artists doing psychogeographic work, public interventions, and spontaneous gatherings. Check them out, they have been doing some great things.

We have artists from Providence, Rhode Island School of Design and other regions interested in the show. If you like some of the links we have here, then send us an idea to the PO box address in the first post.

Talk to you later,
Pipsters.
